After thinking about it, I am leaning towards these two formations for Germany. I agree about the defensive vulnerability of the 4-2-2-2 and Andrich adds more balance. With a back three, I don’t see the issue with a Kroos/Gündoğan double pivot, with Gündoğan getting forward.
